Scientists and engineers have the opportunity and obligation to the public to explain, guide and contribute to the public discourse of science and technology. STEM researchers should assert their knowledge in their areas of learning to influence public policy and the law. This presentation is aimed at starting a dialogue by explaining some basic concepts and expounding on those ideas through examples and discussion.
About the Speaker:
Vikram Kapil practices law, intellectual property and criminal defense in Martinsville, Southside Virginia, and Greensboro, North Carolina. Vikram became a member of the Virginia State Bar in 1993. He was the Public Defender for the City of Martinsville, Counties of Henry and Patrick, Virginia. He has practiced as court-appointed counsel and been in private practice. Vikram was born in Youngstown, OH, to immigrant parents from India. He attended the University of Virginia, College of Arts and Sciences for his undergraduate degree. After three years working as a molecular biology researcher at the University of Maryland at Baltimore School of Medicine and the University of Maryland Cancer Center, Vikram went on to Law School in Washington, DC. He obtained his J.D. from the District of Columbia School of Law in 1993.
