ES3 Group from University of Cincinnati visit Pitt

ES3 group visited the University of Pittsburgh on October 28, 2009. The group included ES3 leader Dr. Schulz along with Dr. Bill Heineman, Dr. Sarah Pixley, Dr. Yeo-Heung Yun and Dr. Zhongyun Dong. Amos Doepke, Dingchuan Xue, John Yin, Julia Kuhlmann, Mitesh Oswal, Pravahan Salunke and Xuefei Guo also accompanied their advisors. The visit began with a welcome Pizza dinner arranged by the hosts on October 27, 2009.The agenda of this visit was to present some of the research currently being done by University of Cincinnati (ES3) and University of Pittsburgh (ES1 and ES2) and also to visit the laboratories there.

N.C. A&T's biomaterials center cites progress in its first year

The first year of activity for the new Engineering Research Center for Revolutionizing Metallic Biomaterials at N.C. A&T State University has been spent laying the scientific groundwork for what the school expects will be a significant economic boost for the region in coming years, according to officials.


ERC Student-Faculty Day held in Greensboro

The first ERC-RMB Student-Faculty Day was held in Greensboro on August 23-24, 2009.  The event was attended by more than 35 ERC students together with 30 ERC faculty and staff members.  The agenda can be found here. The goals of the Student-Faculty Day were to:

  • Introduce students to each other as well as faculty and form positive personal relationships.
  • Develop a common "ERC knowledge base" for all students.
  • Nominate new members to the Student Leadership Council, form sub-committees, and define objectives/action items for the next year.
  • Obtain feedback from students on how to improve the ERC.
  • Discuss current ERC research and plan next steps.

Nano-to-Bio Summer Camp - NCA&T

This summer camp at North Carolina A&T State University included  organized scientific research designed  for high schools students. At the Nano to Bio Camp the students tested skin products and artificial skin and learned about growing organs for humans. See more…

 


ERC Researchers from Pitt and NCAT visit the University of Cincinnati

Teams from the Univ. of Pittsburgh, and North Carolina A&T State University visited the University of Cincinnati (UC) January 20,21 2009 to Discuss Research and Teaching in the NSF Engineering Research Center (ERC) Revolutionizing Metallic Biomaterials. Visitors from NCAT were Dr. Jag Sankar (ERC Director), Dr. SergeyYarmolenko (Senior Scientist), and Dr. Dhananjay Kumar (project leader). Visitors from the University of Pittsburgh were Dr. Harvey Borovetz (BME Head), Dr. William Wagner (deputy director ERC and of the McGowan Institute of Regenerative Medicine at Pitt), Dr. Charles Sfeir (project leader), and Dr. Prashant Kumta (project leader). Dr. Cynthia Powell of the National Energy Technology Laboratory could not attend.
