Synergistic Activities:
Devdas Pai has played a key role in the Center for Advanced Materials and Smart Structures at NC A&T State University since 1995. This Center (led by Prof. J. Sankar) operated an NSF CREST project from 1997-2008 and is now operating the NSF ERC for Revolutionizing Metallic Biomaterials (ERC-RMB). He works with a multidisciplinary faculty and student team from the College of Engineering and the School of Education and with collaborators from Pitt, Cincinnati, CSU-LA, Edmonds Community College and Guilford Technical Community College to achieve the education and outreach objectives of the ERC. He is a five-time teaching award recipient at the department and college levels at NC A&T State University. He has been extremely active in education and outreach nationally by serving on ASEE (current Chair, Mechanical Engineering Division & Past Chair, Manufacturing Division), ASME (past Chair, Materials Division and current member General Awards Committee) and ASTM (past Membership Secretary, Committee C-28). He has organized symposia on ‘Processing and Characterization of Advanced Materials for Challenging Environments’ for the ASME IMECE for the last 5 years. Professor Pai has over 80 publications in peer reviewed journals and conference proceedings.
